Card rating: ** 3/4 Match observations: Three words: WHAT A CARD ! Who would have thought that Dave Finlay could not only defeat Shawn Michaels, but do so after kicking out of the Sweet Chin Music... the move that defeated the mighty Hulk Hogan. Finlay was the first wrestler *ever* to kick out of the move, and his participation in the King of the Ring tournament definitely is deserved. Dean Malenko goes into the King of the Ring strong as the reigning IC champion having beat the legendary Rick Steamboat in the middle of the ring with the Texas Cloverleaf. It isn't like Rick Steamboat took the easy way out, either. He never submitted to the hold - it was the referee who stopped the match as Steamboat was unable to continue. Therefore, the two-out-of-three falls stipulation was abandoned. Malenko will be challenged by none other than the Great Muta at the King of the Ring. Muta had imposed a stipulation upon himself that he wouldn't fight for the title until he had won five consecutive matches in under five minutes. His victory over Bret Hart - while tainted - was the fifth match which qualifies him for facing Malenko. Steve Austin showed a tremendous amount of intestinal fortitude in his match with Diamond Dallas Page. If one thing's for sure, then it's that Austin and Page are now even again. Page kicked out of the Stunner and pinned Austin with the Diamond Cutter a few months ago, and tonight Austin returned the favor. A monkey wrench was thrown into the King of the Ring tournament when both Sting and Bradshaw were eliminated due to a double countout. WWF officials say they will find a suitable opponent for Ric Flair's first round match. What the word "suitable" means ? No idea. I guess it would have to be someone who fits the bill to challenge WWF Champion Vader at SummerSlam.
